Data Protection Act and paper based records
Changes due 24th October 2007
The Data Protection Act gives citizens the right to request a view of personal data held about them. As a result the public should be able to ascertain if information is correct, relevant and complete and to advise the record holder of any errors. Intandem's software and services allow users to manage records efficiently in order to ensure that the DPA can be honoured quickly.
Firms will have to supply ALL data from 1998 onwards, not just that held on electronic files, within 40 days of a request.
Firms that do not meet requests within 40 days will be liable under law and possibly fined.
A legal right of recourse will exist. Health records and local authority documents will also now be covered.
Records held in active or live filing will be applicable.
October 2008 forthcoming changes - Records held in manual filing predating 1998 will also apply
